Pine is a soft wood, it is easy to work with and cut. It's low cost doesn't mean it can't look good. It can be painted (once prepared) or stained and / or varnished. Some people may choose to wax or oil their pine. This wood can have many knots at random. This is normal and part of the characteristic of the wood.
